The ProWave Difference
The ProWave hair removal system delivers a specially tailored light source for permanent hair reduction. Cutera's TM newest hair removal innovation provides treatment for a wide range of skin types. An additional patient benefit is the ability of the handpiece to treat large areas such as women's legs and men's backs - quickly and safely.
What do ProWave treatments feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
What are the possible side effects?
Although patients experience few side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your medical professional for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.
How does ProWave compare with other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods which must be repeated on a frequent basis. ProWave offers permanent hair reduction for lasting results.
How does ProWave compare with electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each individual hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to hundreds of hair follicles at a time, ProWave effectively treats an area in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.
How many treatments do I need?
Depending on the area you will need 6-12 treatments for permanent hair reduction. IPL only works on ‘growing hair’ stage; to obtain the best results multiple treatments are required. Because hair grows at different rates in different areas your IPL Therapist will advise you.
Is IPL permanent?
No one in the industry should be promoting IPL as completely permanent hair removal with any machine or any type of treatment. Each person's hair growth pattern is different and is affected by many known and unknown factors, mostly hormonal influences. IPL will cause a dramatic and permanent hair reduction, with remaining hair re-growth becoming finer and lighter. However, most people who complete a course will find they get an extremely effective hair reduction during the course and very little re-growth following. Some people get complete hair reduction with no re-growth and others will require regular maintenance treatments once a year or so.
Do I need to let my hair grow to a certain length before I can get treated?
No, not at all! As long as the hair is present in the hair follicle itself, there is no need to have the hair showing past the skin's surface. You can remove excess hair from the surface of the skin by shaving or trimming between treatments. You should not remove hair by waxing, tweezing or any similar methods.
Do I need a consultation?
Yes, consultations are conducted with clients before the treatment to:
Assess if the IPL treatment is appropriate for you
Explain the process
Advise pre and post treatment care instructions
Perform a test patch. This will allow you to feel the IPL on your skin and see the results for yourself
Advise the cost of treatment.
