As we get older the natural substances such as collagen (the major structural protein in the skin), elastin (the protein that causes tissue to stretch) and hyaluronic acid (which gives skin volume) decreases, leaving our skin with wrinkles, also known as dynamic wrinkles.  Sun exposure, smoking and stress are also contributing factors to wrinkles and folds.

BOTOX® is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, creating a rejuvenated appearance.  BOTOX® can only be performed by a qualified medical professional as it is a prescription-only medicine.  BOTOX® can treat crow’s feet, forehead lines and glabellar frown lines.

BOTOX® is a non-surgical procedure and takes around 10 minutes.  A small amount of the BOTOX® is injected into the selected facial muscle using a very fine needle.  It takes about 2-3 days for the treatment to take effect and about 7 days to see the full effect.  The treatment lasts up to 4 months before lines start to reappear.  Repeating the BOTOX® treatments tends to last longer.

There may be some side effects and usually these are temporary and are localised to the area of injection.  Some side effects include headaches, pain, burning/stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site, local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids/ eyebrows, swollen eyelids, skin tightness, tingling sensations, itching/aching forehead, nausea and flu-like symptoms.
